Introduction

One of the main challenges in running any organization is to communicate membership requirements, benefits, responsibilities and other general information to all interested members of that organization. The purpose of this web site is to compile in one location all of the necessary information about the Abraham Lincoln High School Band needed by the students and parents to become fully functional members of that organization. It is hoped by publishing this web site that students, parents and friends will be better informed about the bands and related activities. Much of the information contained in this web site will apply to all of the bands in the program including the concert band, marching band, pep band and jazz band. Some of the information may apply to a particular band only.
Please make sure that you read all of the information pertaining to your involvement or interest in the program.
Handling
Problems/Concerns
Every rule or requirement that is established may a concern for someone. The best way to handle problems and/pr concerns with you band director is on a one to one basis. When a problem or concern is brought up during large group rehearsal that applies to only one or a few individuals, time spent on that individual problem results in a loss of learning time for others. Therefore, it is better to approach your director before or after rehearsal time with such concerns. In that way you can be assured of adequate time for discussing your concerns. If such are concerns are raised during a large group rehearsal, individuals run the risk of being asked to wait for a more appropriate time. Please do not feel slighted by this act. Remember, your band director wants to run a rehearsal as efficiently and effectively as possible. This not only creates a positive atmosphere and cuts down on the time demands of being in the organization, but also increases the productivity of the group.

STATE SOLO CONTEST
Each student is advised that if they are performing a solo at state solo contest in April that a recommended fee of $20.00 should be paid to the piano accompanist by the student. This is a courtesy that should be completed before the solo competition. The accompanists are provided through the school but not paid by the school. Accompanists put many hours of hard work in the preparation of your music for performance so therefore a thank you card and minimal fee will guarantee their willingness to help you as a student.

Each year the student starts with no points, and by completing the items listed in the lettering form, they can earn a letter award. The minimum points needed to earn a letter by a student are 1000. If the student scores over 1500 points, they earn extra awards, and if they earn over 1750 points they enter an exclusive club of the finest band students at Abraham Lincoln High School.
