8th notes Volunteers8th notes

Each year the band department at Abraham Lincoln strives for excellence from its directors and students. This excellence cannot be achieved without the assistance of many volunteers. Several of our volunteers are involved as members of the Band Parents club but other volunteers are always needed to help with numerous tasks that are involved in the band program. Check some of the opportunities for volunteer work that are listed below.

  • Pull band trailer, involves at least a ¾ ton pickup or SUV with a V-8 engine.

  • Piano Accompanists

  • Pass out programs at concerts

  • Video tape concerts, marching band performances and other performances

  • Help with band web site

  • Help with decorations for the dessert hours that we have in the fall and spring

  • Count money for fund raisers

  • Sew hems in band uniforms

  • Help fit band uniforms

  • Help with one of the many fundraisers that we have here, fruit sale, pizza sale, car washes, garage sale, and patron program

  • Help with the jazz festivals

  • Woodworking to help with trailer design, repair shelves in band room, etc.

  • Welding skills to help make frames for marching band equipment

  • Band Parent officers

  • Chaperone band trips

  • Paint

If any of these items can be taken care of by your volunteering, let us know. It is always greatly appreciated. The pay of course is terrible but the rewards are great, as the band will continue to thrive and be successful because of your contribution. If you are interested please contact thanzlik@cbcsd.org

8th notes Chaperones 8th notes

Parent chaperones are always needed and encouraged when the band travels to any band activity. There is always extra room allowed for parents who may wish to travel to the band activity and do not want to drive. The workload is minimal as the directors’ deal with any problems that do occur immediately. If you would like to go to a band performance regardless of the activity please contact the directors immediately or thanzlik@cbcsd.org

Bluffs Jazz Festival

Each year in February the ALHS Band program hosts a jazz festival which has involved many schools. In the past we have had up to 40 junior and high school bands participate along with performances by the Bluffs Big Band, UNO Jazz Band I and the Iowa Western Community College Jazz Ensemble. The band parents have hosted a concession stand and this has become one of their major fundraisers. If you are interested in participating and helping with the concession stand contact thanzlik@cbcsd.org.

Silent Auction and Spring Concert

Each year the spring band concert in May has been in conjunction with a silent auction. Individuals and businesses from the Council Bluffs area have generously donated items to be auctioned at this event. The event is extremely popular and attendance has been very good. If you have a business or you personally would like to make a donation to this event please contact thanzlik@cbcsd.org

Pizza Sale

We are currently selling pizza for this upcoming school year. 40% will go to the students individual trip accounts.  The sale will begin at the beginning of the band camp and orders need to be turned in the fist day of school.  Delivery will be during the first week of September.
(712) 328-6481 or thanzlik@cbcsd.org

Candle Sale and Butterbraid Sale

Each year during the Thanksgiving break, the students of the ALHS band program will be selling Candles for the holiday season.  We will also be selling the infamous Butterbraid pasty products.  The sale will begin in November and delivery will be in December.

The students usually retain about 40% of the sale for their band trip accounts. For other information contact the band room (712) 328-6481 or thanzlik@cbcsd.org

Patronage Program

"Friends of the AL Band" has become one of our main fundraising programs each year. In the past two years "Friends of AL Band" donated over $5500.00 to the band program. These funds were used to purchase a new uniform and instrument storage lockers in the band room, a 24’ X 8’ cargo trailer, established a scholarship program for the high school students to attend band camps and begin the purchase of a new sound/recording system for the band. We need the "Friends of AL Band" to help raise funds for the following goals for the 2004-2005 school year:

  1. Continue our scholarship program for students interested in summer music camp activities.

  2. To replace the xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone instruments, this will be a 12, 000.00 purchase.

This is one of best fundraising programs we can provide for our students, as it is 100 % profit. It is also tax deductible for all patrons and each patron will have their name printed in each band program. Future patrons or interested parties are invited to please contact the Abraham Lincoln High School Band (712)-328-6481, ext 400 or thanzlik@cbcsd.org
